On Saturday, July 28th, I successfully launched on Day 1 of #BikeTheSun — yea! After months of planning and workout rides, I rode 107.6 miles from Madison, through Beloit, and then into and around Rockford, visiting two Solar Sites along the way. First, always cool to bike through railroad tunnels on bike paths, such as what I did on the Badger State Trail.
The highlight of the day was my Facebook Live session at the Alliant Rock River Solar Plant in Beloit: https://www.facebook.com/james.tinjum/videos/304592406950068/?t=0
At Rock River, even ran into a doe and her two fawns that were grazing under the solar panels 🙂
Finally, had a great opportunity with an interview with NBC13 in Rockford to talk about the trip and our purpose: to raise money for #SolarParaNinos project with UW-Madison Engineers without Borders.
Day 2, Sunday, will be a bit easier with just a short 80 mile or so trek down to the Ottawa area for preparation for a tour that I am very much looking forward to on Monday morning — that of the Grand Ridge Solar, Wind, and Battery Storage facilities — the Holy Grail of Renewable Energy 🙂
